Sailing

Glücksburg is one of the most attractive sailing areas in Germany and attracts several thousand sailing fans to the Flensburg Fjord region every year. Glücksburg on the Baltic Sea is also known as a mecca for water sports enthusiasts, and our beautiful Baltic seaside resort has a lot to offer sailors in particular.

Among other things, it is home to the largest sailing school in Germany, the Hanseatic Yacht School of the German Ocean Sports Association HANSA e.V.. A wide range of courses and events attracts many visitors to Glücksburg every year. The sailing courses are particularly popular with ambitious sailing beginners due to their high quality and the sheltered location in the Glücksburg Quellental marina. The so-called "Sailing Academy" offers sailors and anyone who wants to become one countless opportunities. Up to 150 sailing students can be accommodated directly in the sailing school, which is almost like a campus. Numerous courses, from taster sailing to adventure cruises, invite over 3000 sailors from all over the world to learn to sail, expand their knowledge or go sailing with large yachts every year.

A little tip from us: register early for the popular taster courses and look for suitable accommodation near the yacht school. We will be happy to help you!

From the two Glücksburg harbors, the Flensburg Fjord is open to you for sailing trips, regardless of whether you want to sail out to sea or head for a chic harbor nearby. The Flensburg Fjord offers the ideal environment, as it combines the safety of an inland area with a wind guarantee thanks to its proximity to the open sea. The harbors on Denmark's coast are also not far away and are ideal for a day trip on a sailing ship.

A trip to the yacht school is also worthwhile for landlubbers, as it is located right on the beautiful walk from the promenade in Sandwig to Quellental beach. The harbor is a wonderful motif and soulful place, especially at sunset.

Surfing, kiting & SUP

Surfers will find a paradise for windsurfing and kiting, especially on the Holnis peninsula. For this reason, a whole section of the beach is specially designated as a surfing beach. Surfboards and kiters have right of way here and the athletes need pay less attention to bathers and swimmers, but can concentrate fully on the wind and the waves. The standing area on Holnis beach is ideal for beginners in particular. This beach area on Holnis is also home to the surf school, which offers courses for beginners and advanced surfers and also lends equipment to experienced surfers.

At the surf school in Holnis, you can also hire stand-up paddles to explore the Baltic Sea, take part in SUP courses or try out the latest trend of the windfoil - a hand-held kite without a string for skating, surfing or even flying. If you prefer a slightly shallower swell when SUPing, you should stop by SUPvibes on Sandwig's Kurstrand. As well as renting boards, paddles and wetbags, you can also book your course for a penguin badge or a guided tour along the Flensburg Fjord.

Fishing

The Flensburg Fjord around Glücksburg and several lakes in the surrounding area are ideal fishing grounds.
One of the most popular fishing methods on the Flensburg Fjord is surf fishing. Experienced anglers particularly appreciate the fishing spots on the outer fjord around the beaches of Bockholmwik, Habernis, Westerholz and Holnis Spitze. It is mainly garfish, flatfish and cod that bite here.
The inner fjord is particularly suitable for herring fishing. Between the beginning of March and the end of April, the fishing spots on the inner fjord are well filled with locals and holidaymakers. The best spots for herring fishing are on sheet piling or bank reinforcements, and perhaps one or two local anglers will help you find a location.
Of course, boat fishing on the Baltic Sea is always a special experience. Cod and sea trout are particularly good in winter and garfish and flatfish are preferred in summer. The Geltinger Bucht and the Falshöft lighthouse are among the most popular spots for boat anglers. There are also beautiful fishing spots in the Mühlenteich, also known as Rüder See, where pike, bream, eels, tench and rudd can be caught. You need a valid fishing license and a fishing permit to fish here.

Fishing licenses

In order to be able to fish easily during your vacation in Glücksburg, you need either a general fishing license, also known as a fishing permit (regardless of the federal state in which it was issued) or a vacation fishing license, which you can easily apply for online from the state of Schleswig-Holstein. This is valid for 28 days and can be extended for a fee. In addition, the fishing tax of €10.00 must be paid and a fishing permit must be purchased. To fish at our mill pond (Rüder See) in Glücksburg, you can obtain this fishing license for €8.00 from us at the tourist information office on presentation of a valid fishing license.
